Types Of Trucking Insurance

TRUCKER’S PRIMARY AUTO LIABILITY

Auto Liability coverage provides protection against your legal liability for bodily injury and/or property damage caused by the negligence of you or your employees during the course of your work.

NON-TRUCKING LIABILITY (BOBTAIL/DEADHEAD)

If you are a leased owner operator, then your primary auto liability and cargo coverages are provided by the Motor Carrier you are under lease with. Non-trucking liability coverage protects you when you are using your vehicle for a personal or non-business related purpose.

GENERAL LIABILITY

General Liability coverage pays for bodily injury and/or property damage caused by you or an employee as a result of business activities not directly related to operating your truck.

UMBRELLA/EXCESS LIABILITY

Umbrella/Excess Liability coverage is purchased on top of other insurance coverages. It provides broad coverage protection for your assets and income from claims originating from risk situations that are not covered in your primary auto liability insurance policy.

UNINSURED MOTORIST

Uninsured Motorist coverage applies when the driver and/or owner of a vehicle does not have insurance and is legally liable for injuring you in an accident. Your uninsured motorist coverage can be used for injuries that you and/or the occupants of your vehicle incur.

UNDERINSURED MOTORIST

Underinsured Motorist coverage applies when the driver and/or owner of a vehicle does not have enough insurance and is legally liable for injuring you in an accident. Your uninsured motorist coverage can be used for injuries that you and/or the occupants of your vehicle incur.

PHYSICAL DAMAGE

Physical damage coverage is designed to protect your vehicle and/or equipment in the event of an accident in which you were at fault.

MOTOR TRUCK CARGO

Motor Truck Cargo coverage insures cargo being transported that is in your care, custody, and/or control at the time of an accident/incident.

REFRIGERATION (REEFER) BREAKDOWN

Refrigeration breakdown coverage is an optional coverage that can be added to your cargo policy to protect you from claims made due to a change in temperature, as a result of the mechanical breakdown of the refrigeration unit on the trailer being used to transport temperature sensitive freight.

TRAILER INTERCHANGE

Trailer interchange coverage provides physical damage insurance for trailers that you do not own while they are in your care, custody and/or control being hauled under a trailer interchange agreement.

NON-OWNED TRAILER

Non-owned Trailer coverage extends the coverage provided under the bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage of your policy to any trailers not owned by you that are used by you or any of your employees in the course of business.

PERMANENTLY ATTACHED EQUIPMENT

Permanently Attached Equipment coverage extends to items that are bolted to or welded to your vehicle or trailer during the course of normal business operations. Permanently attached equipment should be included when calculating the value of your vehicle for your stated amount of physical damage coverage.

RENTAL WITH DOWNTIME

Rental with Downtime coverage provides you with a temporary replacement vehicle and/or income during a period which your truck is not functioning properly. The average downtime monetary amount received is usually based on projected lost sales revenue.

BUSINESS AUTO

Business Auto coverage applies for the use of your company’s cars, trucks, vans and other vehicles in the course of carrying out your normal business operations. This coverage may include vehicles owned or leased by you, hired by you, or employee-owned vehicles used for business purposes.
