How Semi Truck Transport Works
Here's how to ship a semi truck with LFS when it can run and drive on its own wheels. Four steps, one point of contact.
1. Tell Us About the Move
Send the pickup and delivery locations, the equipment and the timing. We confirm the route and the state rules that apply.
2. We Fly Out a Vetted Driver
We match the move with an experienced CDL driver and fly them to the pickup. We cover the driver's travel, so you don't arrange flights or hotels.
3. Pickup Inspection
The driver does a full walkaround and pre-trip, notes the condition with photos and checks the paperwork before rolling.
4. Delivery and Handoff
The driver delivers the unit, does a delivery inspection with you or your contact and hands over the keys.

Driveaway Service vs Trailer Transport
There are two main ways to move a semi truck. The right one depends on the truck.
Driveaway (Driven on Its Own Wheels)
A CDL driver drives the unit to its destination. Federal rules call this a driveaway-towaway operation. It fits trucks that run, drive and can pass a pre-trip inspection. Ask us about cost, because it depends on the miles and the unit.
Trailer Transport (Flatbed or Lowboy)
The truck rides on another truck's trailer. It's the usual choice when a unit doesn't run, isn't road ready or shouldn't add miles. We'll tell you honestly which way makes sense.
Trailer Relocation and Commercial Truck Driveaway
Trailer relocation is more than hooking up and going. Our drivers check the kingpin, air lines, lights, tires and brakes before they roll, and they do it again at delivery. The same care goes into every commercial truck driveaway move.

Driveaway Plates and Permits by State
Each state has its own plate rules for driveaway moves. We confirm them before every move.
Texas Drive-a-Way In-Transit License
Texas requires a drive-a-way in-transit license from the Texas DMV, with an in-transit plate on each vehicle being driven to its buyer or destination. Dealer plates can't be used on a loaded commercial vehicle. We plan Texas moves around these rules.

Florida Transporter Plates
Florida issues transporter license plates for drive-away operations under Florida Statutes section 320.133, and the transporter must carry the insurance the statute requires. We check how Florida's transporter rules apply before a Florida move.

North Carolina Driveaway Plates
North Carolina's DMV rules (19A NCAC 03C .0433) require insurance covering the vehicles before driveaway plates are issued. We confirm the North Carolina plate and insurance steps before the move.

How do I ship a semi truck that runs?
If it runs, drives and can pass a pre-trip, driveaway service is often the simplest way: a CDL driver drives it to the destination. If it doesn't run, it usually goes on a flatbed or lowboy.
Can I hire a driver to move my truck one trip?
Yes. You can hire a CDL driver for hire for one trip through LFS. We fly a vetted driver to the truck, they move it, and they hand it over at delivery.
Do you move trailers only?
Yes, ask us about trailer relocation. A trailer moves behind a tractor driven by a CDL driver, so tell us whether you need the tractor too.
Can you move a truck that doesn't run?
A truck that doesn't run can't be driven, so it needs trailer transport on a flatbed or lowboy. Tell us about the unit and we'll talk through the options.
Can you move a truck I bought at auction or from a dealer?
Yes. Send us the pickup location and timing. We'll confirm the paperwork and plates needed before the driver flies out.
What plates and permits are used for a semi truck driveaway?
