Managed truck ownership: questions and answers
Straight answers to the questions people ask most about owning a truck that LFS manages.
Before the questions
Managed truck ownership means you buy and own a semi truck, it is placed with a trucking company in the LFS network and runs under that company's operating authority, and LFS manages it under a written management agreement. We are a trucking management company, not a fund or an investment adviser, and we don't promise returns.
The answers below are short on purpose. If you want the whole picture, read how managed truck ownership works and the risks, and look at the management services we provide to the trucking companies in our network.

Questions and answers
What does education have to do with my investment?
Your equipment is monitored, worked and improved by a team with Freight University's education behind it, managed by LFS. With education behind it, your investment is more secure. How we work.
Is LFS taking investment money?
No. LFS does not take, hold or pool investment money, and we do not sell securities. You buy the truck yourself, it is titled to you, and LFS manages it under a written management agreement.
Who owns the truck?
You do. The truck is titled in your name or your company's name. LFS holds no ownership in it.
Whose operating authority does the truck run under?
The authority of the trucking company it is placed with. Your truck is placed with a trucking company LFS has built or is building in the LFS network. It runs under that company's own USDOT and MC numbers, and LFS manages it. The management agreement names the company and spells out the arrangement.
What is the LFS network?
The trucking companies and freight brokerages LFS builds for its clients. Each one operates under its own authority, with LFS management and compliance oversight. Owners who place a truck into the network have it run with one of those trucking companies.
What does LFS do for the truck?
We recruit and hire the driver, dispatch the truck, keep DOT compliance current, coordinate maintenance and repairs, run the back office, and send you a weekly report. How managed truck ownership works walks through each step.
How much does a semi truck make for the owner?
It depends, and we don't publish figures, because any number on a web page would read like a promise. What a truck earns depends on freight rates, how many days it runs, driver retention, fuel, repairs, insurance and the market. Some weeks show a loss. LFS does not promise any return or level of income.
Is managed truck ownership hands-off?
Mostly hands-off, not completely. People often search for trucking passive income, and we'd rather be straight with you: you don't drive, dispatch or chase paperwork, but you still put up the capital, pay for repairs, read the weekly report and make the owner's decisions.
Can I lose money?
Yes. Breakdowns, driver turnover, rate swings, fuel, insurance, depreciation and financing all carry risk, and you can lose some or all of what you put in. Read the risks, in plain words before you go further.
Who pays for repairs and maintenance?
As the owner, you do. We schedule maintenance, line up repairs and keep the records, and we bring major repair decisions to you. How costs are handled is written into the management agreement.
Who hires and manages the driver?
We recruit, screen and hire a CDL-A driver for the network trucking company your truck runs with, and keep the driver qualification file the federal rules require. We also manage hours of service and logs day to day.
What kind of freight will the truck haul?
Trucking companies in the LFS network run 53-foot dry van, refrigerated (reefer) and power only freight, 80,000 lb CDL loads. We don't run flatbed or hotshot, and we don't offer a trailer leasing program.
I already own a truck. Can LFS manage it?
Possibly. Tell us about the truck in the inquiry form, including the year, the equipment and how it runs today, and we'll talk through whether it fits.
What will I see each week?
A weekly report showing the loads run, revenue, expenses, management charges, any downtime and what's coming up, such as inspections or repairs.
Is LFS an investment adviser or a broker-dealer?
No. LFS is a trucking management company. We don't give investment, tax or legal advice. Talk with your own attorney, accountant and financial adviser before you buy a truck.
What does it cost?
We don't publish fees on the website. Every charge is written into the management agreement, and we go over it with you on the call before you sign anything.
How do I get started?
Send an inquiry. Someone from LFS will reply to set up a call. Nothing is decided on a web form.
