Buy or sell a semi truck

Commercial truck sales broker

LFS brokers the purchase and sale of commercial semi trucks. We help buyers find a truck that fits their freight and budget, and help sellers move a truck to a buyer who is ready, with the inspection and paperwork handled properly on both sides.

Why buy through a broker

A truck that does not fit the freight, or one with problems no one checked, can sink a small trucking company in its first year. We are a carrier-first company, so we look at a purchase the way an owner should: will this truck haul the freight you have researched, at a cost per mile you can live with?

We work with tractors for 53-foot dry van, reefer and power only freight at 80,000 pounds. If you are still deciding what to buy, read buying your first semi truck first.

Sellers benefit too. A truck sold with clear records and clean paperwork changes hands faster and with fewer arguments at inspection. Whether you are buying or selling, we keep the process plain: what the truck is, what it has been through, and what you are signing.

Buying a truck through LFS

  1. Tell us the freight and the budget

What you will haul, where, and what you can spend, including the cash you need to keep in reserve.

  2. We find trucks that fit

We look for trucks that match the work, and we tell you plainly when a truck is not a good fit.

  3. Inspection and records

We arrange a review of the truck's condition and records: the engine report, maintenance history, emissions system repairs, frame, brakes, tires and the current annual inspection.

  4. Paperwork

We help make sure the title matches the VIN and the seller, liens are released, and the bill of sale and transfer documents are complete.

  5. Ready to register

You leave with the documents you need for insurance, plates and your Form 2290 filing.

Selling your semi truck

A well-documented truck is easier to sell. We help you present it honestly and close the sale cleanly.

Gather the records

Maintenance history, the engine report, the annual inspection, and any lien payoff information if the truck is financed.

Describe it honestly

A clear condition report brings serious buyers and fewer surprises at inspection.

Close it cleanly

We help confirm the buyer is ready and that the title, lien release and bill of sale are in order before the truck changes hands.

Paperwork in a semi truck sale

  • Title in the seller's name, matching the VIN
  • Lien release, or payoff letter from the lender
  • Bill of sale signed by both parties
  • Maintenance and repair records
  • Engine computer (ECM) report
  • Current annual inspection report
  • Buyer's insurance in place before the truck moves

Buying equipment with education behind it

When we help you find equipment, the freight research and planning behind it come from a team with Freight University's education behind it. How we work.

  • Freight research behind the purchase
  • Equipment matched to your lanes
  • Managed by LFS

Questions and answers

Does LFS sell its own trucks?

We work as a broker between buyer and seller. We will tell you up front whose truck it is and what our role is in the sale.

What does it cost?

It depends on the truck and the work involved. We will explain our fee before we start, in writing, so there are no surprises.

Can you help with financing?

Tell us how you plan to pay when you reach out. We will help you think through cash versus financing and what the payment means for your cost per mile.
